Haven't forgotten about the Little Golden Book, on the contrary, it's becoming a stone on my conscience. But I do have a really funny link for you, especially funny for Canadians. My father-in-law found an ad in his local newspaper. For a Canadian restaurant. In Lochem. Of all places. Expensive! Make an effort and read some Dutch.

Berkenboombier?

Mij ook een raadsel, lijkt me een soort vloeibare aspirine. Where is Ineke when we need her?!

Birch beer... never heard of it.

And I'm afraid the restaurant is not even that expensive, according to the 'new Dutch standards'. Restaurant prices hiked considerably in the last three years (not surprisingly, many restaurants go bankrupt for lack of customers).

Yes, I know about this restaurant-Canada has a lot of fans in Holland, including this couple
However, it looks to me like Birch beer is American-I only know about birchbark canoes. You know the definition of a Canadian, by the way, is someone who can make love in a canoe!

Garden Sneekers? Sounds interesting... I wonder if they sell back bacon on a bun and maple syrup...eh?

Exactly, Amy. It's like what Douglas Coupland answered when he was asked what typically Canadian food was. "It has to come from a box" is what he said. And the restaurant doesn't even sell poutine!
