etiquette

etiquette.jpg

Am doing an illustration on etiquette. I wish I could work non stop on my merry-go-round, but we have to eat too. The illustration is almost done, but I cannot wthhold you the gem I found researching the topic. A long time ago I used to be quite an expert in the field of etiquette. Not only was my stepmother a fierce advocate of the sport, but all volumes of the "universiteit voor zelfstudie" were on a shelf right above the desk where I did my homework. And since I had to do homework each day until half past eight or so -yeah right- I had lots of spare desk time. The volume on etiquette was my favourite. And I grew up the well behaved woman you all know.

Oh I'd love to do an illo on etiquette. I HATE etiquette books with a passion. But it would be great fun to make fun of them. Can't wait to see what you do!

Etiquette? I never heard of it before. Is it healthy? Does it hurt?

Amy Groskamp-ten Have. I have the 1939 print of 'How to behave', and adore the chapters that deal with problems like what the maid or other members of the household staff will get for their birthdays.

Or a question like: how do you shake hands with someone who's lost his hand?

Dit heb ik nog geleerd bij mevr. Betist in den Haag, De moeder van Patty en Rob, wederzijdse vrienden van Erica en mij. Zeer gastvrij. In de Snelliusstraat 1954-'55. Rob kennen we nog, Patty is al meer dan 20 jaar geleden aan kanker gestorven.
