Holy mother of newspapers, the spot colour is PINK!!! I'm going to keep it red in my portfolio, that's for sure. It's a big article this time, because it's about the complete works of Bas van Putten. And call me ignorant, but I had never heard of him. Which of course complicates the drawing process. I prefer drawing authors that already exist in my little universe, authors I can picture in my mind, without looking at photo's. Bas van Putten was especially hard, because he co-hosts a tv program in the Netherlands. A horrible horrible program IMHO, and as a host Bas comes across very pedantic. And knowing nothing of his books, the character I drew started to look more and more like the tv show host. But what a relief now that I read the article: "Bas van Putten is working on a versatile but consistent oevre in which one identical prototype keeps recurring: the man who is a stranger to humbleness."
Posted by eliane at June 23, 2006 02:15 PMJe tekening vanavond in de krant is veel mooier van kleur. Echt rood met een neiging naar oranje. Helemaal geen roze. Groot, 25x25 cm!

Posted by: eliane at June 23, 2006 04:50 PMReading your comments on me, I suddenly remember a german composer telling me: 'ich bin viel netter als meine Musik.' Happily, there are still people who like me. I see you don't. But I still like the drawing, and I'd liked to have it. One question: is the director of Archie Bunker an antisemite, just because his protagonist is?

Posted by: bas van putten at June 25, 2006 03:19 PMEliane is much nicer in real life too. I guess we are always really two people, the person that we think we are and the person that we appear to be. Sometimes they're very different, and sometimes the two are complete strangers. When introduced to each other, the pair ought to be pleased to make the acquaintance.
Posted by: Michiel at June 25, 2006 10:28 PM"the pair ought to be pleased to make the acquaintance", nicely put, Michiel.
Although I think we are more than just two people. The person we think we are and the 27384 persons other people make of you.
