Photo is not great, but it's late and it's dark. Bianca, to answer your question, I do it on wood because it looks good. Michele came in this afternoon, she is a second generation Dutch immigrant. Hey! What is that?! I used to watch that as a child!

I love gouache, it smells wonderful.
Oh yes, it smells wonderful. I used to use it in my airbrush. I love the matte finish of gouache.
Posted by: Bjorn at March 12, 2007 03:18 AMThe particular reason is that I figure it not only looks good, but it makes life easier as well. I have a very tight deadline on this book, so I have to work quick and dirty. And the flames in the wood already provide a background, one or two brush strokes, and I have a landscape. And it's maple because the flames on maple are really small, so there's a lot of flames on a small surface. And maple is also hardwood, it doesn't absorb too extremely.

That's beautiful! I wish I could get you to illustrate something for my new website ...
