tall

VM.jpg

Today is a historic day. Thirteen-year-old Otger passed his seventeen-year-old sister's line on the kitchen door post. He is taller! Only another eleven centimeters and he'll get me as well. How many peanut butter sandwiches will that take? The sister is a little sad, being the shortest one in the family. Tough luck, she takes after Michiel's mom, who was also short. Had she chosen any of her other three grandparents, she would have been tall and slender. But who knows which other flaws she would have had to battle then.

"Short" is only relative.
I'm short in Holland and average in Canada! Average, after having consistently been second-shortest throughout school! I'm finally average, yay!

Hey, your kids have great names! Can we see what they look like anywhere? (oh and I just saw you linked to my old www.lotteklaver.nl/log, but it's now just the url without the /log, could you change that? thx!)

Link zal ik veranderen. Ik gebruik die linklijsten eigenlijk helemaal niet meer, ik gebruik een blog reader.

Ze zijn leuk!:-)

Hey Piffin, don't worry. I bet you still can lift your foot high enough to kick your brother's butt (or any other tall guy for that matter).
:-)

Great. Arne, who is 12, is going over 1m70 these weeks. Nina, 15, still stays stuck at 1m50. Sim (21) was able to grow 5 cm taller then me. I always wanted TALL children, I guess some dreams don't come true. So what,
the are healthy and enjoy themselves; and that is a miracle to.

My 12 year old daughter came and asked me if I thought what you wrote for your blog was appropriate. I stopped what I was doing and read what you wrote and thought, 'Wow, what a great parent you are...'
How embarassed I would feel if my parent wrote the following about me... "Had she chosen any of her other three grandparents, she would have been tall and slender". Your daughter did not 'chose', genetics did that for her. Kids of today have a hard enough time as it is without having to fit into 'the tall and slender (albeit more desirable) category. Second, the fact that you printed your statement where she might read and re-read it tells us something too. And here is our statement
You might be a good artist, but your compassionate parenting skills need a serious revamping. Shame on you, we feel sorry for your daughter.

oh, David, I'm afraid you missed the irony...

@ David

I don't think about it too much, she's probably just jealous of all the good things that came with being short.
Like perfect vision and being able to lift heavy things.
And where we live now I am above the average height for females anyway.
