ikea

HM_print.jpg

I decided I needed a small couch that would fit the 1.50 m stretch of wall that faces my computer. Because we are always watching films and TV programs on my computer without anywhere to sit. But we did have an Ikea catalog. And Michiel reluctantly agreed (before he had more than once threatened with divorce would I go to Ikea). Very shortly after, my aunties Clare and Michelle came to the door and they were all excited about it, Michiel had told them when he passed their house while walking Orbit. The whole street knows how Michiel feels about Ikea. So C&M took me to the video store, missed their exit, and -what the hell- drove to Ikea, six o'clock on a Sunday evening. And back with the Klobo on top. Michiel and Piffin assembled it while I made tomato soup. And now Klobo is an art project. It's a doodle bear! Everybody who sits on it gets a marker, or some acrylic paint. You didn't think I would live with a white couch? Oh, and about the print. This is my very last author drawing for the newspaper, sadly enough. I was supposed to have done them one year, 2006, ended up doing them well into 2007, but now I am really done, and Peter van Dongen will take over. You can tell me which of my drawings is your favourite, I'd like that. Please don't tell me your least favourite ones, I am a sensitive soul. I may even tell you my own favourite ones.

Blog about the artcouch! Can one sit on this with white shorts on? Or will that result in reverse prints on one's bottom?

We make sure to only use water proof inks and paints. Yesterday somebody sat down while some green ink wasn't quite dry yet, though. We will have to also draw a warning message, "wet paint!"

I looked at the comments to see whether I'm allowed 4 favorites instead of 1. It seems 3 is okay, so I'll take the chance:
In alphabetic order:
- Frank Martinus Arion, because he jumps at you from the page, and the costume really adds to his character as portrayed here
- Abdelkader Benali, because it's such a warm portrait.
- Hella Haasse 2, especially after HH1 (which is very good in itself, too, see previous comment), because I always find it nice to see young versions of older people (did I mention I love old photographs, too?)
and
-Doeschka Meijsing, because even though I only know her name from a song by Ivo de Wijs ('wedden dat die ook een prijs ving?') I can picture her personality from the portrait. Or at least I think I can.

Sorry for hijacking the comments. Anyone with 5 favorites?

Interesting. I'll give you my personal top 5, not necessarily in order:

1 Elsbeth Etty
2 Willem Brakman
3 Ramsey Nasr
4 Eva Gerlach
5 Arjan Visser or Atte Jongstra

Sorry for cheating.

My favorite is (also) Elsbeth Etty and while looking through them to pick my other favorites (which I gave up eventually because there were too many, how flattering is that) all of those you mention above came up as candidates. Definitely Eva Gerlach (oh, the hair) and Willem Brakman. Maybe even Willem Brakman on nr. 1.

What are you talking about, Clare? Etty is very much a woman (don't let her hear this) and she is not wearing a sweater. Oh, you must mean Enter's sweater, the scrabble T-shirt?
